Kristal & I recently worked a wedding reception at the Omni Hotel in Ft. Worth. This is a cool place for a reception. I found this long hallway in the hotel, not far from the reception room. I thought that it would make a cool looking background for portraits of the wedding guests & party - something that says "Omni Hotel", especially for the out-of-town guests. Kristal & I posed & photograph the wedding couple, various family groupings, etc. at this spot. But this is my favorite shot - one of the bridesmaids with her boyfriend. (Kristal thought that this couple will make a good quality, future wedding job.) I used only one light - my Canon 600EX-RT flash, on-camera; it was bounced off of a large white wall, camera-right. The flash was set to ETTL mode, while my old EOS 5D camera was in manual mode - ISO 1000, 1/30 sec, f/5. The ambient exposure was based on the background, measured by my in-camera meter, and purposely underexposed by one stop. My 24-105mm IS lens was set to 50mm (did not want to distort their bodies). I aimed the flash head at a point on the white wall approximately half-way between me & the couple, and slightly up toward the ceiling. Kristal posed the young lady so that she would receive the light on the short side of her face, but the light coming off of the wall was so large that it wrapped around her face. (The broad side of the guy's face was lit, but that was ok; the girl was more important here.) From the couple's position, the light source is the large, diffused (soft) light coming off of the wall - not the light from my flash. I used a bounce card on the flash to place catchlights in their eyes, but it wasn't very effective; I can barely see them - I was probably too far away from the couple. I love how Kristal posed this couple. I love the triangles & diagonals that the pose created. And I liked the movement on the couple - coming in from camera left, up her head, and up her arm, which is connected to his upper body, continuing the moveme
